FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO MVCC 49-46
On a night when the Duke and North Carolina men ruled the airwaves on ESPN and were the showcase of the NCAA’s rivalry week; in the NJCAA’s women’s ranks, number eight ranked SUNY Cobleskill and the number three ranked Mohawk Valley Community College met in Cobleskill, NY last night in a battle for Mountain Valley Conference supremacy. In front of a packed house it was the visiting Hawks the eked out a 49-46 decision over the host Fighting Tigers in the featured game in NJCAA women’s college basketball last night. The loss puts Cobleskill’s overall record at 19-3 on the season with a 10-2 mark in conference play while MVCC improves to 23-0 on the year with a perfect 10-0 record in league action.
NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, turned in an outstanding effort for Cobleskill with 15 points, 12 rebounds and two assists on the night while freshman guard/forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, added 14 points on the evening for the Fighting Tigers.
Cobleskill senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, continued her strong inside play with six points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots and senior forward Tahara Pleasure, Albany, NY, Albany High School, was a key factor in the contest for the Fighting Tigers with seven points and three assists on the night.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Thursday February 7th when they travel to Johnstown, NY for a meeting with the Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery Community College beginning at 7:00 PM.
