FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS DELHI TECH 75-22
The SUNY Cobleskill woman’s basketball team used a balanced offense and a stifling defense to pound the visiting Broncos of Delhi Tech into submission by a 75-22 score in Mountain Valley Conference play last night. The victory puts the Fighting Tiger season record at 22-4 on the year and closes out the team’s conference season with a 13-3 mark. The victory also ties the program record for most wins in a season established by the Fighting Tigers last year.
“I thought that we started a little sluggish tonight offensively due in part to the six days we had off coming in but defensively we were pretty much there the entire evening forcing them into 46 turnovers,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “I think that this was an important win from the standpoint of building some momentum heading into the post season and from the standpoint that we tied the program record for wins with one game left in the regular season going into Senior Night.”
Senior NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, paced the Cobleskill attack with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals on the evening while freshman point guard Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School continued her strong play off the Fighting Tiger bench with 11 points, four assists and three steals. Senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, was a force in the paint adding 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots on the night for the Fighting Tigers.
