FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SWEEPS SUNY DELHI IN WEEKEND ACTION

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team posted a sweep over visiting Mountain Valley Conference foe SUNY Delhi on Saturday at Fighting Tiger Park by scores of 14-6 and 7-0. The victories push the Fighting Tigers overall record to 7-9 on the season with a 6-4 mark in league play.
In the first game Cobleskill exploded for seven first run innings and despite seven errors easily outdistanced the Broncos behind freshman pitcher Danielle Lichwick, Westtown, NY, Minisink Valley High School, who went the distance allowing only three earned runs, striking out five and walking three in the contest.
Offensively the Orange & Black were paced by senior shortstop Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, who went 2-for-4 with a triple, stolen base and two RBI and by freshman second baseman Nichole Shelley, Swanzey, NH, Monadnock Regional High School, who finished the day 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a double and an RBI.
The Fighting Tigers then took the nightcap when in the fourth inning a rash of injuries forced the Broncos to forfeit the contest. The contest final score is officially designated a 7-0 victory for Cobleskill with all individual statistics counting on player totals.
Rightfielder Danielle Lichwick was 2-for-4 on the day with four RBI whiled senior third baseman Kayla Jones, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, also had a big afternoon at the plate before the action was called going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Cobleskill will return to action on Tuesday April 29th when they travel to Utica, NY, to meet the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College in Mountain Valley Conference action beginning at 3:00 PM. |
