COBLESKILL SOFTBALL OPENS SEASON WITH SWEEP OF CGCC

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team opened the 2008 campaign on Tuesday by sweeping Columbia-Greene Community College in Mountain Valley Conference play on the Twins home field in Hudson, NY. The Fighting Tigers took the opener by a 9-0 margin and were leading 11-0 in the second inning of the nightcap when multiple injuries forced the Twins to forfeit the contest. The game will be recorded as a 7-0 Cobleskill win with all individual offensive and pitching statistics counting. With the victories the Orange & Black open the season with a 2-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Mountain Valley Conference action.
Cobleskill freshman pitcher Sheri Boardman, Sheffield, MA, Housatonic High School, recorded her first collegiate victory and shutout in the first game allowing only three hits while striking out four and walking no one. The freshman hurler is now 2-0 overall on the season.
Offensively senior shortstop Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, provided the offensive power for Cobleskill going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI on the day while freshman outfielder Nicolette Shelley, Swanzey, NH, Manadnock Regional, went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Freshman centerfielder Liz Goyette, Ferrisburg, VT, Vergennes Union High School, was also 1-for-3 on the afternoon for the Fighting Tigers with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday April 9th, when the host the Hornets of Broome Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM. |
