The White Plains, N.Y. native was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament after leading the Fighting Tigers to their first-ever NEAC Championship and NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament Automatic Bid after averaging 26.0 points per game on 66.7 percent (18-of-27) shooting from the field and 76.2 (16-of-21) percent from the free throw line to go along with 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assist and 1.0 steal per game during a pair of playoff contests.
Nunez opened the tournament with a bang on Saturday, erupting for a career-high 33 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor and a 15-of-18 effort from the free throw line while also adding four assists and four rebounds in a 79-69 win over Penn State Abington in the tournament’s semi-finals. He then followed that up with a game-high 19 points in the 49-46 win over tournament host Lancaster Bible College that clinched the title for Cobleskill on Sunday. The former White Plains High School Tiger was also the facilitator of the team’s go-ahead basket in the championship game, as he drove to the hoop before dishing off to junior center Travis Woods, Mount Upton, N.Y., Unatego High School, for a layup under the basket with 47 seconds left that gave the Fighting Tigers a 47-46 lead that they would not relinquish.Â
