Student-Athlete Advisory Committee By-Laws
NCAA SAAC Mission Statement:
- The mission of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. (www.ncaa.org)
SUNY Cobleskill SAAC Role:
- The views of the members serving on SAAC will convey those of all SUNY Cobleskill student-athletes to the administration, undertakes projects that benefit all members of the community, and highlights engaged student-athletes on campus.
Mission Statement:
- The State University of New York Cobleskill Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will present a positive image of the student-athlete to the entire college, including professors, administrators and other students.
- The SAAC will work to ensure equal opportunity and success for all student-athletes, both academically and athletically, and inspire unity, teamwork and school pride throughout the campus community.
Functions:
- Members shall represent their teammates, while also reporting information from the meetings back to their respective teams and getting feedback to convey any concerns to the athletic administration.
- Provide all student-athletes with a voice both on, and off campus while also protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
- Offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on member institution campuses.
- Building a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletic teams with an emphasis on support at athletic events.
- Encourage active involvement of all student-athletes for community service projects, fundraisers, and other fun activities.
Representation:
- Each athletic team will have two representatives on the committee.
- The SAAC President and Vice President will head the committee.

Selection and Duties of Officers:
- Term: Officer terms will be held over the course of one academic year
- Eligibility: An officer must have served as a team representative for at least year prior to running
- Elections: Officer elections will take place at the last meeting of the spring semester
- A majority vote is required for an Officer to be elected
- President: Run meetings; propose meeting agenda and events
- Vice President: Step in in place of the president when not available; run committee meetings
- Secretary: Record meeting minutes; contact SAAC group; set up meetings
- Treasurer: Responsible for managing budget and expenses of SAAC committee and events
- Social Media: Responsible for managing SUNY Cobleskill SAAC Social Media accounts
- Alternates: Step into officer roles if unable to perform officer duties
Committees
- The Vice President will be responsible for presiding over all committee meetings
- Special-committees will be created as needed for specific assignments each year.
- Committees may last all year, or may only be needed for several weeks.

Member Requirements
- 2.75 GPA
- Member of SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Team
- Required to attend at least 60% of all SAAC events and meetings
- Officers and team representatives limited to Sophomore student athletes, or older
- Freshmen can sit in and attend meetings
- Required to participate in all major SAAC events
Voting and procedures
- Two thirds of team representatives must be in attendance to hold a vote
- During voting processing each team will receive one vote
- Two thirds vote is required to pass an item
Amendments
- This constitution may be amended with three-fourths support of all voting members.
SAAC Warnings and procedures for removal from membership
Documented warning will be given for:
- First disciplinary action from University.
- First and second unexcused absence from mandatory meetings.
Removal of membership
- Second disciplinary action from University.
- Three unexcused absences from mandatory meetings, including committee meetings.
- Three warnings in an academic year
- Any other behavior deemed unacceptable by SAAC officers.
Excused absences include: sport participation, required academic event, and any other absences that would be excused by the university registrar for a class.
