The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise announced today that junior Mackenzie Holbert, Sauquoit, N.Y., New Hartford High School/Herkimer Community College, a member of the women’s volleyball team has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday September 3rd.
The junior setter was a unanimous All-Tournament Team selection at the 2017 Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College in Chicopee, Mass. over the weekend. Led by Holbert the Fighting Tigers won 2-of-3 contests defeating Castleton State University on Friday evening by set scores of: 25-20, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-12 in the opening round then split a pair of matches on Saturday losing to the host Blazers in the day’s opener 3-0 by set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19 prior to defeating the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College 3-1 by scores of 17-25, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-21.
Holbert averaged 5.0 assists, 3.91 digs, 1.64 kills and .073 aces per game at the tournament posting a hitting percentage of .101 for the weekend in 11 sets played.
The Fighting Tigers, who currently boast a 3-1 overall record on the season, will return to action on Wednesday September 6th when they host the Spartans of Castleton State University in non-league action at the Iorio Gymnasium with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
