The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise announced today that freshman Brandi Persico, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, a member of the women’s volleyball program has been named the department’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.
The freshman outside hitter earned All-Tournament Team honors at the 2012 Blazer Challenge hosted by Elms College in Chicopee, Mass. over the weekend. Persio averaged 1.43 kills, 1.57 assists and 1.57 digs per set in 11 contests as the Fighting Tigers took two-of-three games to open the campaign with a 2-1 overall record.
On Friday evening Cobleskill opened tournament action by dropping a 3-0 decision to Sage College 25-15, 25-20 and 25-23 before defeating host Elms College in straight sets 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-18. The Orange & Black then closed the tournament on Saturday morning with an exciting 3-2 marathon victory over Albertus Magnus College by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 27-29 and 15-4.
