COBLESKILL, N.Y. - SUNY Cobleskill Athletics has officially canceled the remainder of the 2026 men's lacrosse season. The decision follows a significant reduction in roster availability due to player injuries and student-athlete departures, leaving the program with only 12 active participants.
After a thorough review of the program's current situation, Athletics determined that continuing the season would not be in the best interest of the student-athletes still competing. Placing the physical and competitive demands of a full schedule on a roster of 12 players posed an unacceptable health and safety risk. "This decision was made with the health and safety of every student-athlete as our top priority. We sincerely apologize to our players, coaches, families, and fans for the impact this has on our community," stated Marie Curran, Director of Athletics. "These are our student-athletes first. We have a responsibility to protect them, and that responsibility guided every part of this decision."
SUNY Cobleskill Athletics remains committed to supporting all current student-athletes throughout the remainder of the academic year. We remain fully committed to the future of men's lacrosse at SUNY Cobleskill. More information regarding the program's direction will be shared with our community as those conversations develop. We appreciate your patience, your grace, and your continued support. Additional information regarding the future direction of the men's lacrosse program will be communicated to the Cobleskill community as it becomes available.
