Matt Williams joined the SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department in 2015 and was named Sports Information Director in December 2025 after serving as Interim Sports Information Director since August 2024. Prior to that role, he served as Assistant Sports Information Director beginning in 2018.
As Sports Information Director, Williams oversees athletic communications for the department’s 18 varsity sports, including media relations, statistics, website content, social media, photography, video production, live streaming, and game operations. He also serves as the primary communications contact for the Fighting Tigers and works closely with coaches, student-athletes, campus partners, student-workers, conference offices, and the NCAA.
Before transitioning into athletic communications full-time, Williams held a variety of roles within the department, including Associate Head Coach for the men’s soccer program, Interim Head Coach for women’s soccer, assistant women’s basketball coach, assistant men's basketball coach, fitness center supervisor, social media coordinator, game manager, event management staff member, and COVID-19 testing coordinator as well as teaching activity courses and wellness courses.
During his decade with the men’s soccer program, Williams helped the Fighting Tigers return to conference postseason play, including North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019 and North Atlantic Conference Tournaments in 2021, 2022 and 2024. He played a key role in player development efforts that produced including a NEAC Defensive Player of the Year and a NEAC Rookie of the Year including numerous all-conference and all-academic selections.
A native of Cobleskill, New York, Williams was a standout student-athlete at Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, where he earned numerous all-league and all-region honors in soccer. He still holds the school's records for goals in a season and goals in a game, while ranking second all-time in career points. Williams was named Class B Boys Soccer Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-State honors. In addition to soccer, he was an all-league basketball player and a Section II Class B champion in the 800-meter run.
Williams began his collegiate playing career at Springfield College before transferring to SUNY Cortland. As a member of the Red Dragons men's soccer program, he appeared in more than 45 matches while helping the team reach two SUNYAC Championship games, earn national rankings, and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament. In 2014, Cortland advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen.
Williams earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sport Studies from SUNY Cortland and later completed a Master of Science degree in Sport Management from Cortland in 2020.
