Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department has named senior women’s basketball player Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) as the Fighting Tiger Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 5, 2025.
Walker earned recognition as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and was also named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week for her exceptional performances in Cobleskill’s non-conference victories over Western Connecticut State University (WestConn) and Tufts University.
Cara Walker led the Fighting Tigers to a strong start in the new year with impressive showings in both games. In the 78-61 win over WestConn, she came close to a triple-double, recording 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and a steal. She shot an efficient 4-of-6 from the field, 1-of-2 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Walker followed up this performance with a game-high 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a narrow 60-58 victory over Tufts. She shot 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line, including a crucial free throw to secure the win.
For the week, Walker averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and one steal per game, while shooting an impressive 64.7% from the field and 78.6% from the free-throw line. Her stellar play has been instrumental in the Fighting Tigers' success.
