Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over visiting Green Mountain College on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at the Iorio Gymnasium by set scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-19. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 10-6 overall on the season while the visiting Eagles drop to 1-11 overall on the year.
Once again the Fighting Tigers front line proved to be formidable as junior outside hitter
Brandi Persico, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, led the way for the home team with 11 kills and nine digs while junior middle hitter
Melissa Spears, East Fishkill, N.Y., John Jay High School, chipped in six kills and three total blocks on the evening.
Cobleskill also received strong overall outings from: freshman setter
Sarah Ruggles, Guilderland, N.Y., Guilderland High School, with 20 assists, five digs, four service aces and two total blocks, junior
Raven Worthing, Owego, N.Y., Tioga High School/SUNY Delhi, with five kills, four aces and two digs and sophomore outside hitter,
Noelle Horton, Pine Bush, N.Y., Pine Bush High School, with three kills and seven digs.
The Eagles we paced by the tandem of senior middle blocker Madison Wage, Cheshire, Conn., Cheshire High School, who had five kills and seven total blocks and junior middle blocker Torie Cowell, Rochester, N.Y. Gates-Chili High School, who had five kills, two total blocks and a service ace on the night. Junior setter Megan Roy, Franklin, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, who had 11 assists, four total blocks and two digs in the contest.
SUNY Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday October 4 when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Divisional Play Weekend hosted by Cazenovia College when they take on the host Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. followed by a match versus the Express of Wells College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Green Mountain College will next take to the court on Saturday October 4 when they travel to Johnson, Vt. for a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matches at Johnson State College. The Eagles will open play at 2:00 p.m. when they face the Hornets of Lyndon State College then will meet the host Badgers of Johnson State College at 4:00 p.m.
