Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Hartwick College on Tuesday evening in non-conference play at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers blank to 10-17 overall on the season while the Hawks blank to 8-17 overall on the campaign.
Hartwick sophomore setter Quincy Kinzel, Scotia, N.Y., Guilderland High School, led the way for the Hawks with a strong all-around effort with 46 assists, 11 digs, six kills and two service aces in four sets played. The Hawks also received contributions up front form freshman hitter Kayla Baril, Seekonk, Mass, Seekonk High School, with 14 kills, 16 digs and four aces and from sophomore setter Hannah Armstrong, Lansing, N.Y., Lansing High School, who tallied 11 kills to go with 20 digs on the evening.
Cobleskill was led by freshman setter
Sarah Ruggles, Guilderland, N.Y., Guilderland High School, who had 24 kills and 10 digs while freshman middle hitter
Alex Worthington, Millbrook, N.Y., Millbrook High School, chipped in eight kills and three total blocks on the evening. The Orange & Black also received a strong defensive outing from senior libero
Kim Cordova, Oneonta, N.Y., Oneonta High School, with 23 digs and one kill while junior outside hitter
Brandi Persico, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, added eight kills and six digs on the night for the home team.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they host their own SUNY Cobleskill Invitational starting on Friday October 24 when they meet Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed at 7:00 p.m. match-up with Rutgers University-Newark at 7:00 p.m.
Hartwick will next take to the court on Saturday October 25 when they travel to Alfred, N.Y. for an Empire 8 Conference Crossover Weekend hosted by Alfred University. The Hawks will face Houghton College at 1:30 p.m. then take on the host Saxons of Alfred University at 4:00 p.m. Â
