Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-1 decision to visiting SUNYIT on Saturday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at the Soccer/Lax Complex. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 3-5 overall on the season with a 2-2 mark in league play while the Wildcats improve to 3-3-2 on the year with a 3-0-1 record in NEAC action.
Cobleskill struck first when freshman forward
Justin Marek, Broadalbin, N.Y., Broadalbin-Perth High School, scored from close in in the 11
th minute of play to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
However the visitors from Utica, N.Y. responded quickly when 37 seconds later senior midfielder Matt Arcidiacono, Oneonta, N.Y., Oneonta High School, took a throw in and maneuvered through the Fighting Tiger defense to knot the game at 1-1.
The Wildcats then took the lead for good when senior forward Ben Torch, New Hartford, N.Y., New Hartford High School, scored off a deflection in the box in the 18
th minute of play. The visitors finally put the game out of reach in the 84
th minute when sophomore midfielder Nick McBride, Rotterdam, N.Y., Mohonasen High School, was pulled down in the box and scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-1 and decide the issue.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday September 27 when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. for an NEAC meeting with the Timberwolves of Keuka College beginning at 3:00 p.m. while the Wildcats will next take the turf when they host the Mavericks of Medaille College in non-league play beginning at 6:00 p.m. Â
