Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball proved to be their own worst enemy Saturday afternoon to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) newcomers Penn College of Technology by a 86-61 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers' overall record to 2-10 on the year with a 1-6 mark in NEAC play while the Wildcats move to 8-6 overall including a 7-3 conference record.
Turnovers proved to be the Fighting Tigers undoing on Saturday as 31 miscues led to 38 Wildcat points on the afternoon. Cobleskill actually led early in the second half by a 41-38 tally as the home team erased a 38-35 halftime deficit. However three consecutive turnovers by the home team led to seven points in a nine point run for the visitors and a 47-41 lead from which they never looked back.
Once again sophomore forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, paced the Cobleskill attack as the multi-dimensional performer scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds passed out two assists and blocked a pair of shots on the afternoon. Freshman guard
Annette Hogan, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, played well in a reserve role for the home team with 10 points and three assists while sophomore forward
Jocelyn Zaneski, Riverhead, N.Y., Riverhead High School, scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed out three assists on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Sunday January 25 when they host conference rival College of Saint Elizabeth at the Iorio Gymnasium beginning at 12:00 p.m.
