Men's Basketball Loses on the Road to Sage College Gators 84-76

Turnovers Plague Fighitng Tigers in 84-76 Loss to Sage Gators


Albany, N.Y.: In a meeting of 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament qualifying teams the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers and the Gators of Sage College met at Sage's Kahl Gymnasium on Tuesday evening for a non-conference match-up. At the final buzzer it was the host Gators coming out on top by an 84-76 margin in the fast paced affair. The defeat drops the Fighting Tigers to 0-2 overall on the season while Sage improves to 2-1 overall on the year.

Turnovers and rebounding proved to be Cobleskill's undoing on the evening as the visitors had 26 turnovers on the night which led to 30 points for the host Gators who also held a 38-31 advantage on the glass in the contest.

The Orange & Black received strong individual team members as junior swingman Frank D'Esti, Vestal, N.Y., Vestal High School/Broome Community College, had 13 points, six assists and five rebounds in his season debut while junior guard Quincey Miller, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafayette High School/Potomac State College, notched a season high of 14 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Sophomore point guard Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, was solid in his first start of the year with 10 points, four assists and three rebounds as was junior swingman Brian Jackson, Bronx, N.Y., Global Enterprise Academy, who led all Cobleskill scorers with 15 points on the night.  

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend at the 2015Cortaca Classic beginning on Friday evening when they meet the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland at Ithaca College in the tournament opener with tip-off at 6:00 p.m. before facing the Bombers of Ithaca College on Saturday at SUNY Cortland with tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
