Morrisville, N.Y.: In a rivalry that dates back to 1919 the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team posted a hard fought 70-65 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road win over three-time defending conference champion Morrisville State College on Wednesday evening to sweep the season series between the two teams. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 12-9 overall with a NEAC North Division leading 10-3 record while the Mustangs fall to 7-13 overall including a 4-9 conference record. The win also maintains Cobleskill's NEAC North Division lead over Keuka College who are currently 8-5 in the division and 11-8 overall on the year.
In a game that featured seven ties and five lead changes; Cobleskill found themselves clinging to a 67-65 lead with only 26 seconds remaining in regulation when senior guard
Alexis Nunez, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School, found senior forward
Cortrell King, Brentwood, N.Y., Upper Christian Reading Room High School/Suffolk Community College, off penetration and the 6'7" power dunked it home to give the Fighting Tigers a 69-65 advantage from which they never looked back.
Once again Nunez proved to be the key for the Orange & Black on the evening leading all scorers with a game high 26 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds while junior center
Travis Woods, Mount Upton, N.Y., Unatego High School, chipped in 18 points, along with three rebounds and three blocked shots to preserve the win.
Cortrell King was also a factor in the victory with seven points of the bench. Â
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday February 14 when they host the NEAC South Division leading Chargers of Lancaster Bible College, who enter the contest with an 18-2 overall record including a 12-1 conference mark, in a battle of division leaders beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Iorio Gymnasium.
