Men's Basketball Posts 85-72 NEAC Road Win Versus Penn College

Fighting Tigers Break Six-Game Losing Streak Behind D'Esti's 23 Points


Williamsport, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team used their best offensive effort of the season to post an 85-72 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over host Penn College to end a six-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Fighting Tigers to 2-14 overall on the season with a 2-6 record in league play while the Wildcats now fall to 3-12 overall on the year including a 3-6 mark in NEAC action.

Cobleskill sprinted out to a 44-29 halftime advantage never and never looked back as the Orange & Black recorded their best shooting effort of the season connecting on 33-of-62 shots from the field, 53.2%, including an impressive 11-of-23, 47.8%, from three-point range while hitting on 8-of-10, 80.0%, from the free throw line.
Junior swingman Frank D'Esti, Vestal, N.Y., Vestal High School/Broome Community College, led the way for the Fighting Tigers with a game high 23 points while junior swingman Brian Jackson, Bronx, N.Y., Global Enterprise Academy, contributed 15 points and five rebounds.

The visitors also received strong showings from sophomore guard Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, who had 10 points and junior forward Garrett Pitcher, East Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who came off the bench to score 12 points. Junior forward Codi Gorman, Watervliet, N.Y., Shaker High School/Hudson Valley Community College, was also important in the victory scoring eight points and taking down five rebounds in a reserve role.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday January 30th when they host the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute with tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
