Bryn Athyn, Pa.: In a game that could have potential North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's soccer play-off ramifications down the road; SUNY Cobleskill and Bryn Athyn College battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie in conference action, on Sunday afternoon. The tie moves the Fighting Tigers to 4-5-2 overall on the year with a 3-3-2 mark versus NEAC opponents while the Lions move to 3-7-1 overall including a 3-4-1 record in league play.
After a scoreless first half the Lions drew first blood in the in the 48
th minute of play when junior Damilare Adeleye, Lagos Nigeria, Community Secondary School Lagos, converted on a penalty kick to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
Cobleskill tied the action in the 67
th minute when senior forward
Tyler Condame, Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads High School, delivered a pass to freshman forward Thiero Ka, Bronx, N.Y., Banana Kelly High School, who scored to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lions responded in the 80
th minute of play when sophomore forward David Camara, Man, Ivory Coast, Rodborough High School, blasted one home to make it 2-1 in favor of the home team.
With things looking bleak and only 47 seconds remaining in regulation the Fighting Tigers received a break when a Bryn Athyn violation in the box was called resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for the Orange & Black.
Senior defender
Corey Johnson, Brooklyn, N.Y., Abraham Lincoln High School, then played the hero as the team captain beat the Lion goalie sending the game into overtime.
After two additional periods of play the contest ended in a tie as neither team could convert on scoring opportunities in the extra frames. Â
The overtime tie marked the fourth time this season the Fighting Tigers have ventured into extra periods holding a 2-0-2 mark in those contests.
Cobleskill will next return to action on Tuesday October 4
th when they travel to Poultney, Vt. for a non-conference meeting with the Eagles of Green Mountain College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
