Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team posted a 66-60 win over the visiting Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) at the Iorio Gymnasium in non-league action on Tuesday evening. With the win the Fighting Tigers open the campaign with a 1-0 mark while MCLA starts at 0-1.
In a game that featured nine ties and five lead changes down the stretch it was the Fighting Tigers who had the bigger claws as Cobleskill converting on 4-of-5 shots from the field and 8-of-8 free throw opportunities over the last 2:45 in regulation to seal the victory over the visitors.
Freshman guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, had an impressive debut for the Orange & Black connecting on 6-of-10 shots of the field, including 2-of-5 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 from the charity strip for 20 points to go with four rebounds and three assists on the night.
Cobleskill also received strong outing from senior guard/forward
Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, who had 15 points along with four rebounds and three assists and from freshman guard
Shaliyah Graham, Bronx, N.Y., Martin Luther King High School, who had 12 points and five rebounds on the evening. Senior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, was also a factor with seven points and a game high 11 rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action over the weekend when they travel to New York, N.Y. for the 2016 Hunter Tip-off Tournament on Friday November 18
th and Saturday November 19
th. Cobleskill will open the action on Friday evening when they meet the host Hawks of Hunter College at 5:00 p.m. before playing on Saturday at either 12:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. Â Â Â
