Aurora, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team's road struggles were once again evident on Friday evening as the Fighting Tigers could not overcome their own turnovers and the up-tempo attack of The Express of Wells College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action as Cobleskill dropped a 77-66 decision to their hosts. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 3-21 overall on the season to date including a 3-13 conference record while Wells moves to 11-12 overall with an 9-7 record in league play.
After Cobleskill had clawed their way back from a from an early 14 point deficit to close the first half trailing by five points at 38-33; The Express opened the second half by decimating the Fighting Tiger defense with a 24-to-6 run which gave them a 62-39 lead with 9:35 left in regulation to put the contest away. The visitors could come no closer than eight points cutting the lead to 74-66 with 42 seconds left to play.
As has been the case in many Fighting Tiger road losses this year; 19 turnovers led to 19 Wells points including 12 in the second half run which effectively decided the game's outcome. Â
Once again junior swingman
Frank D'Esti, Vestal, N.Y., Vestal High School/Broome Community College, played well in defeat for the Orange & Black with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists while junior guard
Quincey Miller, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafayette High School/Potomac State College, added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. The visitors also received a solid outing off the bench from sophomore forward
Christian Cooper, Gilboa, N.Y., Gilboa-Conesville High School, who grabbed a career high 12 rebounds to go with four points on the evening in a reserve role. Â
The Fighting Tigers will close their season on Saturday, February 20
th, afternoon when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. to face the Wolfpack of Keuka College in NEAC action with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
