Keuka Park, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team used a first half offensive explosion to end their season-long 11-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon posting a 77-60 win over the Wolves of Keuka College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 1-11 overall on the season with a 1-5 conference record while the Wolves drop to 1-11 overall including a 1-6 NEAC mark.
The Fighting Tigers came out firing offensively blasting their way to a 47-27 lead at the half by connecting on 17-of-31, 54.8%, from the floor including 6-of-15, 40.0%, from three-point range complemented with an equally impressive 7-for-8, 87.5%, mark from the free throw line. The Orange & Black were also on aggressive defensively during the stanza forcing the Wolves into 13 turnovers before the break.
Junior guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, was the catalyst in the victory drive with a game high of 24 points along with six rebounds, four steals and three assists as part of a balanced attack.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from: senior guard
Brian Jackson, Bronx, N.Y., Global Enterprise Academy, with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals, senior swingman
Joel Costello, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School, with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists and from junior center
Christian Cooper, Gilboa, N.Y., Gilboa-Conesville High School, who chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman guard
Kahleel Taylor, Bronx, N.Y., St. Raymond's High School, was also a factor in the win coming off the bench to score 12 points and pass out four assists on the afternoon.
Cobleskill will return to the court on Saturday January 21
st when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to meet the Phoenix of Wilson College for a NEAC contest with tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m. Â Â Â
