Washington, D.C.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team concluded their weekend North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road trip on Sunday afternoon by dropping a 66-59 decision to NEAC South Division leader Gallaudet University by a 66-59 margin. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 2-12 overall on the year with a 2-6 mark in conference play while the Bison improve to 13-3 overall including a perfect 11-0 NEAC record.
Despite a strong effort by the much smaller Fighting Tigers, in the end the size of the Bison proved to be the tipping point as Gallaudet: controlled the backboards by a 56-to-30 margin to go along with a 17-to-2 advantage in second chance points and a 38-to-22 advantage in points in the paint.
The visitors used their perimeter defense and quickness to even things up as the Orange & Black forced the Bison into 38 turnovers on the afternoon which led to 18 points in the contest for the road team.
Senior swingman
Joel Costello, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School/Tompkins-Cortland Community College, led the way for the Fighting Tigers with 15 points and seven rebounds while junior guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists on the afternoon.
Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday January 25th when they host the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in league action as part of a women's/men's doubleheader with the women taking the court at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:00 p.m.
