Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team ended a five-game losing streak on Friday evening by posting an 80-74 victory over the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 4-20 overall on the campaign with a 4-13 NEAC record while the Nittany Lions fall to 6-17 overall including a 6-13 record in conference play.
The Fighting Tigers used impressive balance to post the win boasting an attack that featured five players scoring in double figures with two posting double/doubles in points and rebounds on the evening.
Senior swingman
Joel Costello, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School/Onondaga Community College, led the assault for the home team with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists with junior center
Christian Cooper, Gilboa, N.Y., Gilboa-Conesville High School, netting 14 points to go with 11 rebounds on the evening.
The Orange & Black also received strong showings from junior guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, hitting for 16 points while sophomore guard
Kahleel Taylor, Bronx, N.Y., St. Raymond's High School, added 12 points and four assists. Senior guard
Quincey Miller, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafayette High School/Potomac State College, came off the bench to score 13 points to go with three rebounds, three steals and three assists in the win.
Cobleskill conclude their regular season tomorrow, Saturday February 18
th, by hosting the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College in NEAC play as part of a men's and women's doubleheader with the women tipping off at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m. The doubleheader will also be "Senior Day" for both programs with the Fighting Tigers graduating seniors honored before each game.
