Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team saw their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-off hopes ended on Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers dropped a 63-59 decision to the visiting Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (LBC) at the Iorio Gymnasium. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 14-11 overall and closes their NEAC season out with a 10-8 mark in league action while the Chargers improve to 18-7 overall with a NEAC South Division leading 17-3 conference record.
Trailing 49-38 entering the fourth quarter the Fighting Tigers went on 11-0 run to tie the game with 5:32 remaining to play at 49-49 on a pair of free throws by freshman guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School. Cobleskill subsequently took the lead at 54-53 with 3:17 left on a on a lay-up by freshman guard
Shaliyah Graham, Bronx, N.Y., Martin Luther King Jr. High School.
After the Chargers moved out to a 60-56 lead down the stretch,
Addy Lawson once again brought the home team back going the length of the court to score in traffic while being fouled with only 32 seconds left. After Lawson converted on the free throw making it 60-59 the visitors took time out.
Out of the time LBC ran a play and was fouled with junior guard Kirsten Webster Mount Airy, Md., Mount Airy Christian, converting on a pair of free throws with 26 seconds left to make it 62-59. From that point on the Fighting Tigers would miss a game tying three-point shot and Webster would be fouled again making a two free throws to secure the win.
Addy Lawson led the way for the Orange & Black with 20 points to go four rebounds and four assists while senior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, posted a double/double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Senior forward
Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, also played a strong game with 12 points and three rebounds on the afternoon.
Cobleskill will now wait to see if they will be selected for a bid to the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament with will begin on Wednesday March 1
