Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team opened their 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season on Wednesday evening by dropping a hard fought decision to the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute 3-1 by set scores of: 25-17, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-23. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 4-3 overall including a 0-1 conference record while the Wildcats are now 3-5 overall with a 1-0 conference record.
After rallying from a six point deficit two win the second set and even the match at 1-1; Cobleskill battled the visitor's for every point in the subsequent two sets but could not pull away for the victory. The Wildcats were impressive defensively averaging 40 digs per set to go with 18 total blocks to consistently stymie the Fighting Tiger offensive attack.
Junior setter
Mackenzie Holbert, Sauquoit, N.Y., New Hartford High School, continued her early season all-around strong play with eight kills, 13 assists, seven digs and a service ace while freshman middle hitter
Karyn Knaul, Central Square, N.Y., Paul V. Moore High School, chipped in seven kills on the night.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday September 16
th when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. for an NEAC contest versus the Wolves of Keuka College beginning at 11:00 a.m.Â
