Schenectady, N.Y.: Going into Wednesday evening's non-conference road game at Union College the SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team entered as pronounced underdogs to the Dutchmen. However after 90 minutes of hard fought soccer action Union emerged from the battle with a 1-0 victory over the determined visitors. The loss drops Cobleskill to 2-5 overall on the campaign while Union moves to 6-1 overall on the year.
The Fighting Tigers showed exceptional quickness and aggressiveness on the turf outshooting the home team by 13-to-8 margin while holding the advantage in shots-on-goal at 8-to-2 on the night. Cobleskill controlled the action for such a pronounced amount of time that freshman goalie
Sam Sherbacow, Minneola, Fla, Lake, Minneola High School, recorded only one save on the evening.
The home team scored the game's lone tally in the 73
rd minute when freshman forward Chris Muther, Concord, N.H., Phillips Academy Andover, rebounded a shot that had hit the post and found a way to put in the loose ball past a number of people in front of the net for the night's only goal by either team.
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday when they open their 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) schedule by hosting the Wolves of Keuka College with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. as part of a men's/women's doubleheader followed by the game between the schools' women's teams at 3:00 p.m.
