Fighting Tiger Volleyball Suffers Pair of Losses at Penn College on Saturday

Errors Cost Cobleskill on Saturday at Penn College Matches

Williamsport, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team took to the road on Saturday  traveling to Penn College for a pair of contests. The Fighting Tigers lost a 3-1 decision in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action to the Wildcats of Penn College by set scores of: 25-23, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-22 then lost in non-league action by a 3-1 margin to the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University by scores of: 25-17, 25-14, 23-25 and 19-25. With the defeats the Fighting Tigers fall to 5-9 overall including a 0-4 conference mark.

In the opener against the host Wildcats, Cobleskill could not capitalize on several key opportunities in the match as: 15 receiving errors, 10 service errors and nine ball handling errors proved costly to the visitors important junctures of  play.

Sophomore outside hitter Emily Potter, Fort Plain, N.Y., Fort Plain High School, turned in a solid effort in defeat for the Orange & Black with 10 kills, 11 digs and a pair of assists.

In the days second match against the Griffins, mistakes once again proved to be costly to Cobleskill as 17 receiving errors, 11 service errors and 20 attack errors proved to be too much to overcome.

Emily Potter continued her strong play with six kills and nine digs while junior setter Mackenzie Holbert, Sauquoit, N.Y., New Hartford/Herkimer Community College chipped in 14 assists, 14 digs and five service aces in a losing effort.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday October 4th when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. to face the Hawks of Hartwick College in non-league action beginning at 7:00 p.m.
