Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon returning to the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium to post a 62-52 victory over the visiting Wildcats of Penn College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 8-10 including a 3-7 mark versus conference opponents while the Wildcats fall to 6-10 overall with a 3-7 record in conference play.
On a day when neither team could find the basket, the Wildcats shooting 28.8% from the field and the Fighting Tigers connecting on 32.9%, Cobleskill dominated the glass posting a 53-to-35 advantage on the afternoon which led to a 12-to-2 advantage in second chance points and the victory.
Sophomore center
Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Roxbury High School, led the Orange & Black to the win posting a double/double with a team high of 13 points to go with 11 rebounds on the afternoon. The home team also received strong outings from sophomore guard
Addy Lawson, Cooperstown, N.Y., Milford High School, with 10 points, five steals and three rebounds and freshman guard Monique Britton, Westerlo, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, who had 10 points and two assists.
The Fighting Tigers will return to NEAC action on Wednesday January 30th when they travel to Utica, N.Y. to face the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
