Canton, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team once again played the role of
"Road Warriors" on Friday evening defeating the host SUNY Canton Kangaroos in the opening round of the 2018 Kevin Fee/Roos Classic by a score of 49-33 at the Kangaroo's Convocation, Athletic, and Recreation Center. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 3-1 overall on the season while the Kangaroos open the year at 0-1.
With neither team distinguishing themselves shooting the ball from the field through the first three quarters, Cobleskill 10-of-47, 21.3%, and Canton 10-of-41, 24.4%,, the Fighting Tigers used stingy defense, strong offensive rebounding and timely transition baskets to outscore the home team 21-10 in the fourth period to seize control of the game.

Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, led the Orange & Black recording a double/double on the evening with 18 points and 10 rebounds along with six steals. Senior center/forward Stacy Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Â Roxbury High School, came off the bench to score seven points and grab six rebounds while freshman guard
Claire DeBoover, Â Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, scored seven points and made two steals in a reserve role. Sophomore guard/forward Kristina Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville, was also a factor in the win with six points, six rebounds and a blocked shot.
Cobleskill will close their portion of the tournament on Saturday afternoon when they face the Bears of SUNY Potsdam at SUNY Canton's Convocation, Athletic, and Recreation Center at 1:00 p.m. Â
