Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Falls in NEAC Tournament Semi-Finals to Penn State Abington 3-2

Nittany Lions Nip Fighting Tigers 3-2 to End Cobleskill's 2018 Season

Abington, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team saw their 2018 season end on Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision to the top seeded host team Penn State Abington in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Semi-Final Round at the Nittany Lions' Memorial Field. With the loss the Fighting Tigers close the season with a 9-10-2 overall record while the Nittany Lions advance to the league's championship game on Sunday with a 13-5-1 overall record.

After a scoreless first half the Fighting Tigers struck first as senior forward Khadim Diba, Manhattan, N.Y., Julia Richmond High School, broke through the Nittany Lion defense in the 55th minute and found the back of the Abington net to make it 1-0.

The host Nittany Lions then responded by scoring the next three goals of the game as senior defender Sean Seidenburg, Rockledge, Pa., Abington High School, scored in the 57th minute off a corner kick, sophomore forward Jose Palomeque, Upper Dublin, Pa., Upper Dublin High School, tallied from long range in the 67th minute and freshman midfielder Jaden Trusky, Ephrata, Pa., Ephrata High School, connected weakside on a cross in the 71st minute to give the home team a 3-1 advantage.

Cobleskill then cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 75th minute when freshman forward Chris Gardener, Hudson, N.Y., Hudson High School, beat his defender and blasted it home with 15 minutes left in regulation.

However that was as close as the Fighting Tigers could come as both defenses stiffened down the stretch and neither team could put a significant shot on goal the rest of the way.

The Nittany Lions will next play the winner of the Lancaster Bible College versus Penn College game on Sunday November 4th for the conference championship and a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament at Memorial Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
