Aurora, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team returned to the road on Thursday afternoon to meet The Express of Wells College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. The Fighting Tigers dropped the conference doubleheader to the home team by scores of 5-1 and 12-3. With the defeats Cobleskill moves to 2-25 overall including a 1-11 mark in league action while the Wildcats are now 15-19 overall with a 3-15 record in NEAC play.
In the opening game the Fighting Tigers battled The Express to a 0-0 draw until the fourth inning when Wells broke the scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the frame then put the game away with three runs in the fifth.
Cobleskill scored their only run in the seventh when junior shortstop
Jordyn Schwark, Kingston, N.Y., Kingston High School/SUNY Adirondack, doubled home junior third baseman Nick Carinci, Oneida, N.Y., Oneida High School/Jefferson Community College, who had singled.
Carinci finished the game going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles while Schwark was 1-for-3 with the double and RBI.
In the nightcap The Express went into high offensive gear early on scoring in six of the first seven innings to put the contest out of reach early on.
Freshman shortstop
Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass, Bristol County Agricultural High School, was 2-for-4 with a run scored hitting out of the lead-off spot while second baseman Nick Carini was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Cobleskill is tentatively scheduled to return to action at Fighting Tiger Field over the weekend when they host a pair of NEAC doubleheaders taking on the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College on Saturday May 5
th beginning at 12:00 p.m. prior to meeting the Bison of Gallaudet University on Sunday 6
th with first pitch also scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
