Fighting Tiger Women's Soccer Out Battles SUNY Poly 2-1 in NEAC Opener

Lawson Scores Game Winner as Cobleskill Women Drop Wildcats 2-1 in NEAC Play


Oneonta, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team captured their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) home opener versus the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute by a score of 2-1 in a game moved to the turf of Red Dragon Field at SUNY Oneonta due to the recent weather that has hit the area. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 4-2 overall including a 1-0 mark in NEAC action while the Wildcats are now 1-3-1 overall with a record of 1-1 in conference play.

Freshman Rebecca Bruno, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School, kicked off the scoring for the night with a first half goal assisted by Junior Nellie Ramsden, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School.  With less than 15 minutes left in the second half Junior forward Addy Lawson, Milford, N. Y., Milford High School, broke through three Wildcat defenders to score the game winner for the Fighting Tigers.

Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Wetsel, Schoharie, N. Y., Schoharie High School, had another strong showing between the pipes with six saves in the victory.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. on Saturday September 22nd for a NEAC meeting with the host Wolves of Keuka College at 1:00 p.m. followed by a trip on Sunday September 23rd to Cazenovia, N.Y. for a NEAC match-up with the Wildcats of Cazenovia College with kick-off at 12:00 p.m.

Tiger Notes: The Fighting Tigers NEAC victory was the team's first since October 30, 2016 when they defeated Wilson College 2-0 in a game played at Keystone College in Keystone, Pa.
