Fighting Tiger Soccer Roars Past Penn State Berks Nittany Lions 5-0 in NEAC Action

Cobleskill Men's Soccer Runs Winning Streak to Three Games on Sunday

Reading, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team entered the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-off picture on Sunday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers ran their current winning streak to three-games by posting their third consecutive conference road shutout victory over this time blanking the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks by a 5-0 margin. With the win Cobleskill improves to 5-6 overall on the season including a 3-1 mark versus NEAC opponents while the Nittany Lions fall to 4-6-1 overall with a 2-4 record in league play.

The Fighting Tigers jumped to a quick early lead when sophomore midfielder Moussa Bamba, Manhattan, N.Y., Fredrick Douglas Academy, scored the eventual game winner on a penalty kick in the fifth minute of play to give the Orange & Black a half-time lead that they would carry into half-time.

In the second half, Cobleskill exploded for four unanswered goals as Bamba would find senior forward Patrick McGovern, Cogleton, England, Cogleton High School, with a cross in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0 from which point the contest was all Fighting Tigers.

Junior forward Khadim Diba, Manhattan, N.Y., Julia Richmond High School, scored twice in the half and added an assist while freshman forward Chris Gardener, Hudson, N.Y., Hudson High School, came off the bench to score for the visitors to help put the game into the win column.

Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Mazur, Terryville, N.Y., Terryville High School, recorded the shutout win, his third consecutive shutout victory, by posting three saves on the afternoon.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday October 3rd when they host the Mustangs of Morrisville State in NEAC play with kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
