Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime to Utica College 4-3

Overtime Goal by Utica College Pioneers Thwarts SUNY Cobleskill Comeback Attempt


Utica, N.Y.: Trailing 3-0 in the second half the SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team staged a spirited late second half assault on the host Pioneers of Utica College home net to time the contest in the 88th minute to tie the contest at 3-3 and force overtime. However in the extra frame Pioneer senior midfielder Alex Purcell, Lansing, N.Y., Lansing High School, notched a golden goal off an assist by junior defender Salvatore Cabibbo, Port Chester, N.Y., Port Chester High School, in the 96th minute to decide the issue and put the game in the Pioneer's win column.

Trailing 3-0 with 44:35 left in regulation the Fighting Tigers started to comeback by chipping away at the lead throughout the stanza as freshman midfielder Aymen Mohamed, Brooklyn, N.Y. , Brooklyn College Academy, converted in front of the Pioneer net to make it 3-1 in the 56th minute of play. Then the visitors reached into their bag of tricks to cut the lead to 3-2 in the 87th minute to make it 3-2  on a goal from  junior midfielder Mame Amar,  Manhattan, N.Y. / Liberty School Harlem, N.Y. , Martin Luther King, assisted by freshman forward Lucas Jetty, Northville, N.Y., Northville High School.

Cobleskill then tied the in the 88th minute contest at 3-3 when freshman forward Sadou Diallo, Harlem, N.Y., Harlem, N.Y., Martin Luther King High School, scored in front of the Pioneers net on another assist from Lucas Jetty.  

With the overtime loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-3 overall on the campaign while Utica improves to 2-2 overall.

Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday September 12th when they host the Spartans of the Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences beginning at 5:00 p.m.
