Morrisville, N.Y.: In a game that could have major North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-off consequences, the SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team dropped a hard fought 60-54 decision the host Mustangs of Morrisville State on Wednesday evening. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 10-8 overall including a 4-5 record in NEAC play while the Mustangs  now improve to 6-13 overall including a 5-5 record in league action.
After trailing from virtually the opening tip, and by as many as nine on the evening, the Fighting Tigers entered the fourth quarter trailing 48-43. After falling behind 50-43 early on, Cobleskill staged an impressive 8-0 run to take a 51-50 lead with 6:08 left to play in regulation when junior guard
Erica Cabrera, Middletown, N.Y., Burke Catholic High School, nailed a deep three-pointer.
Morrisville then countered with a 7-0 run to make the score 57-51 with 29 seconds left to play. Fighting Tiger junior guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, then gave the Orange & Black a chance at pulling off the road victory by nailing a three-pointer with 29 seconds left to make it 57-53 Mustangs.
However that was as close as Cobleskill could come as the Mustangs' defense held them scoreless the rest of the way while the home team converted on 3-of-4 free throw attempts to secure the victory.
Addy Lawson once again played a major role in the team's comeback efforts posting her sixth double/double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists, two steals and a blocked shot on the evening.
Cobleskill also received solid efforts from junior center/forward
Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Roxbury High School, with 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists and from freshman forward
Kristena Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, who scored nine points to go with eight rebounds on the night.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday February 2
nd when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. to meet the Wildcats of Penn College in NEAC play with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Â
