Cobleskill, N.Y.: In a game for the top spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference's (NEAC) North Division; the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball was out slugged by the visiting Mustangs of Morrisville State by an 84-77 margin. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 7-5 overall including a 2-1 mark in NEAC play while the Mustangs improve to 8-3 overall with a 3-0 record in league play.
In a contest that pitted the Fighting Tigers speed and athleticism versus the Mustang's size and power; Cobleskill held the half time advantage at 49-41. Morrisville then attacked the backboards with a vengeance in the second half to out rebound the Orange & Black 46-to-33 on the night including 19 offensive rebounds which led to 19 helping the visitors break a 70-70 tie with 4:45 left in regulation. The Mustangs used several offensive rebounds to outscore Cobleskill 14-7 down the stretch to put the game in win column.
Senior swingman
Dashown Nelson, Brooklyn, N.Y., High School of Telecommunication Arts & Technology/SUNY Broome, once again led the way for Cobleskill with a game high 28 points and eight rebounds while senior forward
Anthony McNeil, Gresham, S.C., Union-Endicott High School/SUNY Broome, added 22 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots on the evening. Sophomore forward
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, was also a factor for the home team turning in a fine all-around effort with: 10 points, 13 rebounds four assists and two blocked shots.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday January 12
th when they travel to Lancaster, Pa. to meet the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College with tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
