Cobleskill Women's Soccer Loses to Penn College in NEAC Play

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team closed out their weekend North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) homestand on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout victory over the visiting Wildcats of Penn College at the Fighting Tigers Soccer/Lax Complex. With the win the Fighting Tigers are now 7-4-2 overall including a 5-1-1 record in NEAC play while the Wildcats are now 1-10-2 overall with a 1-4-2 conference record. The win also moves Cobleskill into sole possession of third place in the overall NEAC play-off standings.

The Orange & Black broke open a scoreless tie in the 32nd minute of play when senior forward Mame Amar, Manhattan, N.Y., Liberty High School, took a pass at the top of the box from senior midfielder Kalifala Konneh, Bronx, N.Y., Fredrick Douglas Academy, and rolled home well placed shot to the weakside post giving Cobleskill a 1-0 advantage.

The Fighting Tigers then iced the contest early in the second half when senior forward Emile Vwaza, Manhattan, N.Y., Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis High School, converted on a penalty kick in the 46th minute to give the home team a 2-0 lead from which they never looked back.

Pressed into service due to injuries; sophomore reserve goalkeeper Garrett Maxwell, Enfield, Conn., Suffield High School, recorded four saves to go with several well timed defensive plays to secure the shutout league victory.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday October 19th when they travel to Lancaster, Pa. to meet the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC game with kick-off at 1:00 p.m.
