Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Closes Season With 3-1 Loss to Wilkes University in ECAC Tournament First Round

SUNY Cobleskill Men's Soccer Closes 2019 Season With Loss to Wilkes University in ECAC Tourney Action

Edwardsville, Pa.:.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team ended their season with a 3-1 loss to the host Colonels of Wilkes University in the opening round of the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament on Saturday evening. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers close the campaign with a 9-7-4 overall record while the Colonels move forward to the tournament's quarterfinals with a 9-7-3 overall record on the year.

The Fighting Tigers trailed 1-0 early in the second half when in the 49th minute when senior Mame Amar, Manhattan, N.Y., Liberty High School, exploded into the box drawing the Colonel's defense to him leaving senior forward Emile Vwaza, Manhattan, N.Y., Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, open weakside for an easy tap in to the lower right corner of the goal to even the score at 1-1.

However that was a close as Cobleskill would get as Wilkes would score in the 69th and 75th minutes of play to make it 3-1; a lead they would never look back from; despite outshooting the opposition 17-to-12 in the contest.

The Fighting Tigers final record of 9-7-4 and .550 winning percentage along with their second ECAC play-off bid in the last four years represent the best overall season for SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer since moving to the NCAA Division III level of competition in 2008 surpassing that year's edition of the Fighting Tigers who posted a 7-6-2 overall record good for a .533 winning percentage.
