Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Over Powers Clarks Summit Defenders 95-60 in Season Opener

Cobleskill Men's Basketball Takes Season Opener From Clarks Summit 95-60


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team roared into the new season on Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting Defenders of Clarks Summit University by a 95-60 margin. With the win the Fighting Tigers open the year 1-0 overall while Clarks Summit starts the season with a 0-1 overall record.

After taking a 46-35 lead into the locker room at halftime; the Fighting Tigers threw their attack into high gear in the second half to nearly double the Defenders point total outscoring them by a 49-25 margin in the half.

Cobleskill put five players in double figures in scoring led by returners: senior point guard Scott Glasheen, Voorheesville, N.Y., Voorheesville High School, who had 15 points and six assists on the afternoon along with senior swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, who notched a double/double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and senior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, who netted 12 points on the afternoon.

The Orange & Black newcomers were highlighted by junior Khayri Harris, Queens, N.Y., Springfield Gardens, N.Y./SUNY Ulster, who scored 11 points to go with five steals and junior swingman James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, who netted 13 points and blocked two shots in the win.  

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they travel to Alfred, N.Y. for the 2019 Special Tee's Tipoff Classic. Cobleskill will open the event on Friday November 15th when they meet the Saxons of Alfred University in a game to be played at Alfred State College at 5:00 p.m. then close the Classic on Saturday November 16th when they face the Pioneers of Alfred State College at 2:00 p.m. in a game to be played at Alfred University.
