Aurora, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team traveled to Wells College on Saturday to start a three-game North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) series that may have major impact on the league's post season tournament selections. With the Fighting Tigers and host Express both battling for play-off bids; the two teams split Saturday's opening doubleheader with The Express taking the first game by a score of 6-4 and the Fighting Tigers winning the second game by an 8-2.margin With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 16-20 overall on the year including a 9-8 record in league action while The Express is now 15-20 overall with a 8-9 mark in NEAC contests.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when The Express struck for three runs to turn the tables on Cobleskill eventually taking the decision by a score of 6-4.
Freshman third baseman
Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, went 2-for-3 for the visitors in the game with a double, a run scored and a RBI while sophomore first baseman
Jacob Hoffee, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville High School, was also 2-for-3 with a RBI. Freshman right fielder
River Sisson, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was also a factor at the plate going 1-for-2 with a stolen base, a run scored and a RBI.
Faced with the potential for elimination from the league play-off race the Orange & Black turned to freshman right hander
Tim Curtis, Slate Hill, N.Y., Minisink Valley High School, who promptly pitched seven shutout innings scattering six hits while striking out three and walking one to improve his record to 3-4 on the season.
Offensively the Fighting Tigers pounded out 17 hits in the victory including four for extra bases to secure the victory.
Freshman second baseman
Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y. Carmel High School, led the attack going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI while first baseman
Jacob Hoffee continued to swing a hot stick going 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Right fielder
River Sisson continued to connect for the Cobleskill going 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and a RBI with senior designated hitter
Nate Carinci, Oneida, N.Y., Oneida High School/Jefferson Community College, adding a 3-for-5 effort with a pair of runs scored to the offense.
Cobleskill and Wells will close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon, May 5
th, with a single game tentatively scheduled for 12:00 p.m. then await the NEAC tournament selection committee's seedings and pairings for the upcoming league tournament.Â
