Fighting Tiger Baseball Falls in Opening Round of 2019 NEAC Tournament to Penn State Berks

Nittany Lions Hand Fighting Tigers 18-5 Loss in 2019 NEAC Tournament Opener


Reading, Pa.:  The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team ended their season on Tuesday afternoon falling to the host Nittany Lions in the First Round of the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament by an 18-5 margin. With the loss the Fighting Tigers end their season with a 16-22 overall record while the Nittany Lions improve to 23-13 and advance to the tournaments double elimination round meeting the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington on Friday at Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y.

The host Nittany Lions decided the issue early scoring 14 runs in the opening two inning with 11 of those runs coming in the second inning against Fighting Tiger pitchers and a Cobleskill defense that made five errors on the afternoon.

Sophomore shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y. World View High School, closed the season with a strong effort going 3-for-5 on the afternoon with a stolen base and two runs scored while sophomore first baseman Jacob Hoffee, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville High School, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville High School, was 1-for-3 with two RBI. The Orange & Black also received solid outings from freshman right fielder River Sisson, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who was 1-for-3 with a RBI and from senior designated hitter Nate Carinci, Oneida, N.Y., Oneida High School/Jefferson Community College, who closed his career by going 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.

The Fighting Tigers closed the season posting one of the best turnaround efforts in the nation improving from 3-28 overall with a 2-16 record in NEAC action in 2018 to 16-22 overall including a 9-9 record in conference play to earn the program's first bid to the NEAC Championship in program history with a 2019 roster that featured only one senior, one junior and 20 underclassmen.
