Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Loses to Cazenovia College 77-72 in NEAC Action

Cold Shooting Fourth Quarter Costs Fighting Tigers Versus Wildcats in 77-72 League Loss


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team's push towards the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-offs suffered a setback on Wednesday evening as the Fighting Tigers lost to the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a 77-72 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 8-9 overall including a 3-5 record in league play while the Wildcats are now 5-12 overall with a 3-5 record versus league opponents.

After leading 39-31 at the half the Fighting Tigers extended their lead to 58-48 after three quarters and appeared to be on the verge of securing the victory when the Wildcats opened the fourth quarter on a 10-to-0 run to take a 59-58 lead with 7:51 left in regulation.

From there the two teams battled for the lead with Cazenovia holding a 68-67 advantage with 3:07 left in regulation when the Wildcats received a pair of three-point field goals from senior guard Amy Holland, Mexico, N.Y., Mexico High School/Jefferson Community College, and senior guard Danielle Caivana, Frankfort, N.Y., Frankfort-Schuyler High School, to give them a 74-67 lead from which they would never look back from.

Senior Erica Cabrera, Middletown, N.Y., Burke Catholic High School, led the Fighting Tigers in scoring with 16 points to go with six rebounds while freshman forward Megan Hughes, Warrensburg, N.Y., Warrensburg High School, added 12 points and three rebounds. Cobleskill also received 12 points, five rebounds and five assists from junior guard Nylasia Sutton, Queens, N.Y., Lansingburgh High School/Herkimer Community College, along with a game high of 16 rebounds, five points and four assists from freshman forward Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, on the evening.

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday February 1st when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. for a NEAC meeting with the Wolves of Keuka College with tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
