Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Downed at Penn State Berks, 95-88

Anna Post finished with a double/double of 15 points and 14 rebounds

Reading, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team crossed the state line for the final time during the regular season on Saturday to record an 95-88 defeat at the hands of the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the loss, the Fighting Tigers move to 9-13 overall including a 4-9 record in conference action while the Nittany Lions are now 12-9 overall with an 8-5 record versus NEAC opponents.

After falling behind in the first quarter 22-19, the Tigers sparked a big second quarter to get themselves back into the game.  They outscored Penn St. Berks 19-13 in the second quarter and went into the half with a 38-35 lead.  A big reason for the Fighting Tigers taking back the lead before the half was junior Nylasia Sutton (Queens, N.Y./ Lansingburgh) who scored 12 points and dished out 3 assists.

Both teams attempted to stamp their authority on the game during the third quarter and exchanged leads back and forth.  After a made three-pointer by senior Erica Cabrera (Middletown, N.Y./Burke Catholic) at the 8:10 mark in the third, the Tigers pushed their lead to 5 points over the Lions, 43-38.  However, the Lions refused to go away and with 2:47 left in the quarter they held a 4 point advantage over the Tigers.  The teams exchanged leads three more times to close out the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter tied at 58-58.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Loins took the lead at the 9:32 mark and never looked back.  They went on to outscore the Tigers 30 to 37 in the fourth quarter on their way to an 95-88 victory.

Nylasia Sutton led the Tigers with 25 points (8-20) and dished out 7 assists.  Freshman Anna Post (Bovina Center, N.Y./Delaware Academy) continued her strong play with another double/double of 15 points and 14 rebounds (4 offensive).

Senior Gabby Muraczewski (Hamilton Square, N.Y./Southern Regional) shot an effective 6 of 7 from the field for 13 points and collected 8 rebounds (5 offensive).

As a team, the Tigers shot 43.5 % from the field (30-69) and 40.0 % from three-point range (14-35).

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Tuesday February 18th when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. to meet the Wildcats of Cazenovia College for a NEAC match-up with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
