Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team closed their regular season on Saturday afternoon by corralling the visiting southern division leading Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (LBC) by a score of 100-00 at the Iorio Gymnasium in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). With the victory the Fighting Tigers close the regular season with a 16-9 overall record including a 10-6 mark in NEAC play while the Chargers are now 12-13 including a 10-6 record in conference play.
Using an all senior line-up to start on
"Senior Day" the Fighting Tigers started quick leading by as many as 15 points in the first half on the strength of a 19 points and two assists from senior guard
Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, who connected on 5-of-7 three point attempts in the half as the home team went into the break with a 46-33 advantage. Â
In the second half, the Boyle continued to lead the Cobleskill assault on the Charger defense as the junior sharpshooter netted a career high of 36 points including the program NCAA era best 10 three-pointers to go with five rebounds and two assists while senior guard
Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, added 18 points, six assists, four steals and three assists on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from: senior forward
Kahlil Wilson, New York, N.Y., Renaissance Charter School, with 13 points and five rebounds, from senior swingman
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, who had 10 points and nine rebounds and from senior guard
Scott Glasheen, Voorheesville, N.Y., Voorheesville High School, who scored 10 points in the win.
On the afternoon the Orange & Black connected on 38-of-76, 50.0%, from the field including an impressive 15-of-38, 39.5%, from three-point range while forcing 18 Charger turnovers which were converted into 28 points. Â
The Fighting Tigers will next wait for the NEAC and East College Athletic Conference (ECAC) selection committees to learn of any post-season tournament selections.
TIGER NOTES: The Fighting Tiger total of 16 regular season wins is the best since Cobleskill moved to the four-year level of competition in 2008. Devin Boyle's 10 three-pointers is now the program NCAA era record for most in a single game. Antwan Claxton closes his Fighting Tiger career scoring 1018 points in three seasons.
