Cobleskill Sweeps Visiting Canton in NAC Play

Larson and Ellithorpe lead the Tigers

The Cobleskill women's volleyball team kicked off their home North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekend with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-11 victory over the visiting Kangaroos of Canton. The Tigers improve to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the NAC.

MacKenzie Larson (Winterset, Iowa) led the Tigers high powered offense with nine kills and three aces.  Setter Maleigha Ellithorpe (Cazenovia, NY) kept the ball moving to her teammates throughout the match and racked up 25 assists with only two errors.

Sophomore Kelley Miller (Fort Mill, SC) stepped up for the Tigers as their libero and tallied 17 digs and five assists to help Cobleskill dominate the match.  Abigail Scheurich (Oxford, Conn.) made a big impact on the game with seven kills, three aces and five digs.

Cobleskill finished the match with a .367 team attack percentage, bolstered by a .464 in the first set and a .478 in the third set. Canton struggled in the second set with a -.179 attack percentage and finished the match with a -.080 attack percentage.  Canton recorded 19 errors on the day to go along with 11 assists and 13 kills. Cobleskill finished with eight errors, 36 assists and 27 kills.

In the opening set, Cobleskill jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Canton battled back to make it 10-7.  Then leading 12-8, Cobleskill went on an 8-1 run fueled by Larson's pinpoint serving and a big time kill and block by Alexis Miranda (Nashua, NH).

The second set went back and forth with Cobleskill leading 15-14 before a Larson kill and Ellithorpe ace put the Tigers up by three. Cobleskill closed out the second set on a 6-0 run to win 25-16.

The crucial portion of the third set was a 9-1 run by Cobleskill that helped them get out to a 17-8 lead.  Canton errors were a major part of the run.  Cobleskill's offensive proved clinical and Canton never threatened the rest of the way.

The Orange & Black will return home tomorrow, October 3rd, for a home NAC contest with visiting Cazenovia College at 1 pm.
