Castine, Maine: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team saw their run towards the 2021 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship and the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament end on Saturday afternoon as the NAC Western Division Champion Fighting Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision to the NAC Eastern Division Champion Privateers of the host Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) by set scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15. With the loss Cobleskill end the season with a 12-14 overall mark while MMA advances to the NCAA Tournament with a 19-6 overall record.
The Fighting Tigers received strong efforts on the front line from sophomore middle hitter
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, with five kills and an assisted block and from sophomore outside hitter
Abigail Scheurich, Oxford, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, who racked up five kills and three digs on the afternoon. Â Senior setter
Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School, was also a factor in the match with 15 assists, eight digs and a service ace.
Cobleskill advanced to the title game by defeating the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute 3-0 by set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15 in the opening round of the Western Division Championship portion of the tournament then upsetting the top-seeded host Broncos of SUNY Delhi 3-0 by set margins of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23 to earn a trip to the overall championship match.
