Men's Basketball Nipped by SUNY Canton 65-63 in NAC Action

Fighting Tigers Fall in Last Seconds to Kangaroos 65-63 in Conference Play

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team returned to conference play on Friday evening losing a heartbreaking 65-63 decision to the visiting Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 1-9 overall including a 0-2 mark in NAC play while the Kangaroos improve to 3-4 overall with a 2-1 record in league action.

The Fighting Tigers trailed 64-60 with 39 seconds left to play when first-year guard Shaun Johnson, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Poughkeepsie High School, ripped a rebound away from Kangaroo junior forward Justin Omaga, Winnipeg, Canada, and scored drawing a foul to make it 64-62 with 37 seconds left. Johnson then converted the three-point play to make it 64-63.

On the next possession Cobleskill fouled with 15 seconds remaining and the Kangaroos missed a one-and-one with junior forward Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School, grabbing the rebounds and calling time-out.

Out of the time-out the Fighting Tigers ran a set play that resulted in Feldman taking a three-pointer from the top of the key that was blocked by Canton's 7'1" senior center Andrew Fitch, Melbourne, Australia, who then grabbed the rebound with under one second left to secure the win for the visitors.

Senior Juwan Malone, Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Collegiate High School/Fulton-Montgomery Community College, led the home team with 16 point/11 rebound double-double while Ja'Nyve Smith, Albany, N.Y., Bishop McGinn High School, had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists o the evening. Justin Feldman also turned in a strong effort in the contest with 10 points and seven rebounds.
