Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium on Thursday evening to end an eight-game losing streak by defeating the visiting Wildcats of Bay Path University in straight sets 3-0 by set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-11 in non-conference play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 1-8 overall on the season while the Wildcats are now 2-6 overall on the year.
Cobleskill came out dealing aces as the Orange & Black posted a season high of 16 service aces on the night. The home team also dominated the action at the net with 31 kills and five total blocks in the contest.
Individually, the Fighting Tiger front line was the key to the win led by sophomore
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, who had a match high of 11 kills to go with two total blocks and by senior middle hitter
Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, who tallied six kills to go with two solo blocks and two service aces. Sophomore outside hitter
MacKenzie Larson, Winterset, Iowa, Winterset High School, also continued her strong play with an eight kill, six service ace, 10 dig effort.
Senior setter
Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School/Onondaga Community College, effectively quarterbacked the Cobleskill attack throughout the contest with 28 assists, eight digs, a kill and a service ace while sophomore outside hitter
Abigail Scheurich, Oxford, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, posted a four kill, four dig, four service ace effort on the evening. Â
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday September 18 when they host a triangular meet with Mitchell College and Keuka College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
