Men's Soccer Drops NAC Quarterfinal Match to SUNY Poly

Utica, NY: Cobleskill men's soccer dropped their NAC Tournament first round matchup to SUNY Poly 6-1.

The Tigers entered the game as the #4 seed while SUNY Poly the #1 seed. The Tigers defense started the match well and kept the Wildcats offense at bay. Keeper John Gergen (Greenville, NY) had a key save to keep the game 0-0.

Then with 15 minutes left in the first half, substitute Festus Alonge gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead over the Tigers.  The Tigers created their best chance of the game after receiving a free kick with seven minutes to go in the first half.  The set piece found junior Nicholas DePaulo (Colonie, NY) who tried to slot the ball back to Kaurice Bell (Middleburgh, NY), but was blocked by a wildcat defender.

With two minutes left in the first half, Polys Cole Wright found Alonge for his second goal of the game and the Wildcats entered the half with a 2-0 lead.

Cobleskill's early pressure in the second half was finally rewarded with a penalty kick in the 48th minute.  Freshman Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) stepped up and buried the kick to make it 2-1.  A few minutes late sophomore Conor Flanigan (Troy, NY) blasted a shot from 25 yards out that was turned away by a great save from James D'Alessio.

The Wildcats amped up their offensive efforts and sent wave after wave of attacks at the Cobleskill defense. SUNY Poly finally broke through in the 55th minute and then added two more goals in the 57th and 61st minute to break the game open 5-1 in favor of the hosts.  The wildcats added one more goal to make the final score 6-1.

The Tigers were outshot 4 (3 on target) to 25 (12 on target).  Senior John Gergen finished with six saves for Cobleskill.

With the loss, the Tigers 2022 season is finished.
